not much going on

I think my blog will be rather dull for a while, June is going to be pretty chill around here and for the past several days there has been lots of lounging in our blow up pool (which Brennan bit a hole in), sleeping in, cartoons on, etc.. So, if its sparse around here you know why! I have lots of editing to do for a wedding I shot this past weekend, so that blog post will be coming soon! For now, here is a peek at the lovely day (which was 101 degrees and winds of 23 mph)!! Happy Tuesday, hope everyone had a nice, long, 3 day weekend! xo

900 and Friday randomness

So yesterday was my 900th post! That's just plain crazy to me! This blog is getting old!

Okay, recipe opinions for this week (see recipe links in a few posts below), the warm goat cheese salad...well, I LOVED the goat cheese aspect and am glad I now know how to make the breaded rounds, however the dressing wasn't my fave. I felt like the dressing was too olive oil-y, and kind of bitter, next time I will try a different/sweeter dressing and will also add some candied pecans or something to give it more substance. Adam LOVED the chicken dish, I just liked it. The cheese seemed a little tangy (man alive am I getting picky in my old age!) to me, I LOVED the mushrooms and will likely make this again, I just didn't love it like Adam did. The beef and broccoli was good! It didn't make as much as I thought it would and I think it had a little too much broccoli but I would say its a keeper (never found any arrowroot so just left that out).

Speaking of food, and good, low-carb food at that, I've officially lost 5lbs, 16 more to go! (that seems like A LOT to me, its a loooooooooooooong road). I've bought some new shorts recently and although I've only lost 5lbs I'm already down a pant size, that's been fun/encouraging to see!)

Yesterday Brennan and I spent a considerable amount of time discussing her birthday party for this year, its FIVE MONTHS AWAY people!! My girl looooves her birthday! (wonder where she gets that from?) :)

I miss mi casa.

I'm photographing a wedding tomorrow, I wonder who has more stomach knots, me or the bride?! (probably me, the bride seems pretty chill) :)

Kung Fu Panda 2 is FINALLY out! We are hoping to take B today, she's been sooo excited for it to come out!

Ummm.....what else? I think that pretty much sums up whats going on over here in the Winn household, do any of you have fun weekend plans ahead? Well, whatever you're up to, hope its great and that you are enjoying some sun like we are here in Waco! xo

this week's menu

I've been a little off my cooking schedule the last couple of weeks but I hopped back on yesterday! I scoured the internet for recipes, made my grocery list, went to the store, came home, and cooked! I have been trying to keep up with meatless Mondays (somewhat) and last night I made this yummy pasta (tragedy of all tragedies, I forgot to put in the garlic! It has it listed in the ingredients but it doesn't say when to incorporate it so I forgot! DOH! As an avid garlic lover its safe to say something was missing...I will make it again, and WITH the garlic!). At the last minute we invited our friends/neighbors over to join us (they are vegetarians so I was happy the thought came to me!). Nothing like asking people to come over in 10 minutes for dinner! (but don't the last minute ideas work out the best sometimes?) :)

Anyway, it was pretty darn tasty and pretty quick too! Also this week I will be making this chicken dish, this beef and broccoli dish, and this warm goat cheese salad (I LOVE goat cheese!). I will report back with my opinions, hopefully nothing but success! (our grocery store didn't have any arrowroot...does anyone know where I can get some?)

Summer is a comin'!

This past week it feels like summer has pretty much arrived here in Waco. It has started to get hot and humid (ick), and school is now out for Adam and B! May seems really early for summer but alas, that is what you get when you live in central Texas! So, my mind has been drifting to what this summer will entail for the Winn clan. I personally think June will be kind of a long, slowish month, we don't have too much going on other than editing a wedding for me, and art camp for B (oh, and Adam starts teaching his summer classes at the end of June). I think we will be spending a lot of time on our neighbor's porch sipping cool drinks and watching our kids play in their inflatable pool (which I think we will also be getting). Nice and chill.

Once June is over I feel like summer will really take off! The Winn family will be doing some traveling, which is where travel photo sessions come into play! my Wacoan ad

There is a monthly publication in Waco call The Wacoan, they contacted me asking if I wanted to advertise with them, at first I said no thank you, but the last time they contacted me I said yes! So next month this ad will run in the magazine:




Although I don't consider myself a wedding photographer, but rather a photographer who occassionally photographs weddings, I decided to market to brides because I love photographing engagements, and with Baylor being here there are a lot of people who get engaged here but not necessarily married here, so I do have a place in the market. All that to say, this makes me kinda nervous, I hope its not for nothing but there's only one way to find out! Here's to rolling the dice and taking a risk!

just some thoughts on this here Thursday

Adam left at the crack of dawn this morning to drive to Missouri with one of his best friends, they are going back to their old stomping grounds to visit their friends. I'm happy for him, I know he'll have a great time but of course its only 11:37am and I miss him already and can't wait for him to come home! We didn't sleep very well last night, you know how it is, when you have to get up super early you toss and turn all night...lovely. Oh, and I may or may not have set off our new house alarm at 1:30am...nice.

Today is B's last day of school, BOO! How did this year go so fast?! I haven't taken Brennan to school this whole year, Adam takes her and I pick her up. Well, Adam is gone so after not sleeping last night I also had the pleasure of getting up and taking her to school on her last day. I looked awesome as I'm sure you can all imagine. :)

After that I went to coffee with my friend Kellye who I haven't seen too much of lately, was nice to sit outside and chat for a bit.

I really need to go to the store, the fridge is looking pretty empty and the toilet paper is almost out! Now that momsie is gone, the real world is back!

I have a photo session tonight, its been booked for well over a month now and of course the weather is looking very ominous outside. Please no rain!!

Lets see...what else....Oh, I'm photographing a birth any day now, really hoping she can hold off until Adam comes back! I hadn't planned on me needing a sitter for the occasion! (esp in the middle of the night! any takers? :))

In diet news not much to report, depending on the day I'm down 3-4lbs. I need to start being more disciplined b/c the scale hasn't been moving too much, boo!

Lindsay's Shower

Sorry for the blog lull! Mom was in town so we were having too much fun to break for blog posts! She left last night and now the ninner is missing grandma already. :( While momsie was here some friends and I threw a baby shower for our sweet friend Lindsay. Lindsay is expecting her third child in just a couple weeks! She already has a son and a daughter so she decided to be surprised on the gender for #3. Since we don't know what she is having us hostesses took it upon ourselves to use girly colors for her shower. :) It was a fun day showering our dear friend! Now we wait with anticipation...Mabel or Wendell? Here is a peek at her day ~

I really do think that I have one of the most loving, thoughtful and sacrificial moms on the planet, and I'm so thankful she's mine. Happy Mother's Day mom, I love you! xo

When I picked B up from school yesterday she handed me a couple things that she made me for Mother's Day, among them were this "mommy questionnaire" sheet. It cracked me up, um no, I'm not 43 years old and yes, I do have some siblings! Kids are so funny! Several things she got spot on, but some just made me chuckle. I love this little girl!

just some Thursday randomness

So I can't throw out there and I'm trying to loose weight and not keep folks updated, that is a main part of the accountability factor when sharing this info with the world wide web. So, to date, I've lost 3.4lbs so I have 18.2lbs to go! This process is a tad painful, I'm hungry...a lot. I know you shouldn't be hungry (necessarily) when loosing weight, I get the whole "your body holds onto the fat it has," etc.. but I do think a little pain is good for the ol' bottom line. So, its not been w/out mucho effort even thus far but it is rewarding to see the scale moving in the downward direction.

Adam's last day of class was yesterday!! Whoo hoo!! It feels like summer is just around the corner!

I'm hosting a baby shower here in less than 2 weeks. I haven't thrown a shower since I lived in Pasadena so I gotta dust off my cake plates and get my brain in gear! I love parties, and I'm doing this one with several friends so its fun to collaborate and each be assigned a job, etc.. I hope it turns out cute!

I'm doing yet another yard sale with a neighbor this weekend (this will be my third since living here!). Isn't it amazing how quickly you accumulate stuff?! Anyway, I'm going to attempt to sell Brennan's baby car seat...this is kinda a big deal. For some reason, even though I've said out loud "I'm done having babies," holding onto the car seat left room for me to change my mind in some weird way. I've been reminded that car seats get outdated after a handful of years, so really, it doesn't make sense to hold onto it. Off it goes!

So I made Ina Garten's roasted tomatoes and I thought they turned out really good! I think I overdosed on the caprese salad however, I may need a break from that. (so good, just ate too much in a short period of time!). I made the chicken satay for dinner last night and I'd recommend that! My sis said she made it too and liked it! Hooray for tasty new recipes!

Our friend Jon (we call him British Jon, he's from England) moved down the street from us, same street, just farther down. He invited us over tonight to bbq and check out his new digs! What's funny is he bought a house that Adam and I looked at when we were house hunting! Fun! Anyway, looking forward to that!

I've been told the window treatments for the tippy top should be arriving within the next few days, CANNOT WAIT! I'm a tad nervous since its a custom job, and the windows are such weird shapes, and I'm not certain how they'll look, but heres to hoping they look nice/right for the space!

Okay, that's all I got for now, gonna go make some breaky since I'm STARVING and I'm actually trying to eat breakfast these days (which I typically don't do).
